Abhaile Arís and the HUBB begin youth programme

Abhaile Arís and the HUBB’s youth groups met for the first time on Saturday 12th March 2011 as part of a programme to promote cultural understanding between the republican community in Donegal and the loyalist community in Belfast.

The meeting took place in the Sanctuary, Bridgend and was facilitated by cross community group, Concensus.

Rosaleen Gallagher from Cencensus opened up the discussion by explaining the work that they do and outlined the various training courses that they offer to young people. Jack Murray from Abhaile Arís and the HUBB’s Robin Frampton then outlined the work of their respective organisations.

Both groups discussed the many problems that face young people in Donegal and Belfast and it soon became clear that the barriers they face are familiar to both communities. Both groups agreed to use this common ground as a basis to learn more about each other.

The group then had dinner together before traveling to Lisfannon Beach. The event came to close with an agreement that both groups would draft proposals for a residential to take place in the near future.
